The Project

Our $19.4 million project will replace the nearly 80-year-old Louisquisset Pike Bridge in Lincoln, which carries Route 146 over Route 116 (George Washington Highway). This large bridge has been structurally deficient since 2007.

We are using a phased approach to replace the bridge and made changes to an adjacent service road so we can keep all lanes of traffic moving over the structure during construction. To date, there have been no traffic impacts.

The project also reconfigured the off-ramp from Route 146 South to Route 116 South to allow traffic access to either direction on Route 116. This allowed us to permanently close two sharply curved highway ramps, eliminating the tight weave that exists with ramps spaced too closely together. The closed ramps include Route 146 South’s Exit 7A and the on-ramp from Route 116 South to Route 146 South. Signs are in place to direct travelers to the new redesigned on-ramps.

The project is scheduled to be done by the end of 2021.

PROJECT UPDATES | DECEMBER 2021

Traffic is now using the new Route 146 North bridge. On Friday night, we plan to refresh the temporary with more permanent striping at this location for the reestablishment of the Route 146 northbound traffic. This operation will involve the closure of Exit 7 off Route 146 North and the ramp to Route 116 South and alternating lane closures within the project area on both directions of Route 146. Please follow signed detours. During the week, we’ll also have daytime single lane closures in both directions of Route 116 for barrier work.
