 In recognition of an increasingly serious reduction in highway funding and an aging transportation infrastructure in critical need of repair or replacement, Governor Carcieri has established a Blue Ribbon Panel to assess Rhode Island's transportation needs and to identify options for potential funding sources.
The mission of the panel is:
- to fully understand the needs of transportation financing in Rhode Island;
- to analyze and assess funding options, and
- to recommend funding mechanisms and inform the public of the plan.
During its first six months in operation, the panel will investigate the State's aging transportation infrastructure and the Federal and State funding available to accommodate Rhode Island's needs. The group will explore and identify potential funding strategies to create a balanced approach for investing in the State's transportation system.
