ADDENDUM NO. 2 INCREASED THE HEIGHT OF THE PIER CAPS. THE PRECASTORS ON THE APPROVED LIST HAVE INDICATED THAT CAN NOT PROVIDE A PRICE THE PIER CAP DUE TO THE WEIGHT OF THE PIECES. THE DEPARTMENT SHOULD CONSIDER ALLOWING THE CONTRACTOR TO CAST THE PIER CAP IN PLACE DUE TO THE WEIGHT ISSUES.
Answer:
The Standard Specifications do not restrict the production of precast elements to an approved precast plant. The precast elements may be produced at a facility off-site near the project, provided that the quality control requirements of the Standard Specifications are met.

We don’t believe an addendum is warranted. The plans and job specific specifications call for specific elements to be precast. Casting in place of these items would not be in accordance with the plans and specifications.

The pavement over the approach slab is the typical approach roadway pavement structure of 2” Class 12.5 HMA over 4” Class 19.0 HMA. At the end of the approach slab closer to the bridge where the thickness of the pavement is less than 6”, the base course thickness shall be reduced as required.

The DOQ does not include the removal of the pavement for the install of the barrier. The temporary pavement along the median shall be removed in its entirety to allow for the installation of the new median barrier Std. 40.1.0. The full depth pavement structure (refer to sheet 1) shall be placed following the installation of the barrier. The DOQ will revised in an addendum to reflect this work.

The end diaphragms shall be W33x152 and stiffeners shall be ¾”x5½” on both sides of the web. A revised detail shall be issued via Addendum.
