Question:
The bid form provides for three alternates and three unit prices to be submitted with the proposal. I's not clear to me what the different alternates and unit prices represent. Can you clarify how you want the prices broken down? |
|
Answer:
Please ignore all the different alternates and unit prices. Please just submit a single, Lump Sum bid price. |

Question:
Jacking and shoring is only required for Type I girder repairs. The jacking and shoring notes indicate there is no live load permitted in the area above the girders while they are jacked or shored. The Route 37 notes on drawing sheet No. 9 indicate that the repairs to Girders I, J and K shall be completed using overnight (9 pm to 5 am) lane closures as shown in traffic management detail 3. This traffic plan is necessary to remove the live load from above the girders but all 3 of the girder repairs specified for this set up is a Type II Repair which does not require jacking and shoring. Please confirm whether the no live load requirement applies to all the steel repair locations or just the Type I repairs requiring jacking and shoring. |
|
Answer:
The no live load requirement applies for all steel repair locations. Therefore, the traffic restriction for the repairs to Girder I, J, and K shall be implemented. |

Question:
Specification state Verizon and Cranston Fire require 30 days advance notice before they can mobilize on site to render their services and/or perform their work. Please confirm the scope of work to be performed by each utility and provide the anticipated duration for their work. |
|
Answer:
Verizon: 8 weeks of on-site work. This assumes eight hour work days, Monday through Friday, where one week is five (5) eight (8) hour days. Verizon will feed new utility line in the new ducts, splice the new line to existing lines, remove the old, overhead lines, and then remove the old utility poles on either side of the birdge. Cranston Fire Department: 3 days of on-site work to install a messenger cable on both sides of the overpass between 2 poles on each side creating a location for the service coils to be suspended. New fiber will be installed through the new duct bank prior to cutting of the existing aerial fiber. Once readied, the existing aerial fiber will be cut and dressed back to the service coil hangers for fusion splicing to the new underground segment. After splicing, each strand will be tested in both directions again from the 2 fire stations. |
