Question:
JS-27 states that cost for furnishing and installing supplemental steel reinforcement bars and wire mesh shall be included for payment under this item and will not be paid separately. The standard spec states that it will be completed on force account. The reason it was on force account beacause it is difficult to estimate how much rebar or wire mesh is needed until the areas is demolished and exposed. Please reconsider that the rebar is included. If it is included, please provide a quantity the contractor should carry in the bid.

How is the removal of the median at the approaches for Bridges 712 and 713 paid for. The pay items don't include sawcutting, R & D flexible pavement in front of curb and median, earth excavation for gravel under median, new gravel borrow, curb lock, pavement infron of curb, temporary pavement for cross over, trim and fine grade , etc.

There are notes on the plans stating that "All hollow areas and spalls shall be repaired using the partial depth patch repair and paid under item no. 818.0200 - portland cement concrete deck repairs (partial depth removal). These repairs are overhead repairs. The specification for 818.0200 states to use HP concrete. It will be very difficult to use HP concrete for partial overhead repairs. Usually overhead repairs are paid under item 817.2110.

The completion date of the project is 6/7/19 for Bridge 849 and 10/11/19 for the remaining bridges. Due to the size of the project and phasing, the department should consider extending the project into 2020. If not the contractor will be forced to carry liquated damages into their bid which will be passed onto RIDOT.

Do steel repairs have to be completed by AISC certified fabricator and erector.
Answer:
Yes, steel repairs have to be completed by an AISC certified fabricator and erector. Refer to Structural Steel Note 2 on General Bridge Notes Sheet 2 of 3 for fabricator certification. A note will be added by addendum for erector certification.
