Answer:
The quantities in the DOQ for Bridge Nos. 558 and 559 are to remove the portion of flexible pavement adjacent to the existing asphaltic expansion joint on each bridge approach.

Question:
Bridges 555, 556, 557, 559, 560 call to replace the pavement and waterproofing at the pier joints. Can the Contractor use prefabricated heat applied waterproofing at the joints instead of the spray applied waterproofing. If heat applied waterproofing can be used, this would eliminate the need for traffic plates because the removal, waterproofing and paving can be completed in one night.
Answer:
The waterproofing membrane shall be Cold Spray-Applied Liquid Membrane as specified in the Contract Documents.

Question:
Code 817.9904 states that the patching mortar overhead shal have a 2 hour cure time. There are no patching mortars used for overhead that have 2 hour cure times listed on the RIDOT material approved list.
Answer:
The patching mortar material shall be in accordance with Subsection 817.02.2 of the RI Standard Specifications and be recommended by the Manufacturer for use in overhead repairs. The overhead deck repairs shall be allowed to cure for a minimum of two hours prior to opening the bridge and roadway below to traffic.

Concrete Repair items, specs state to remove to sound concrete. At bid time we don't know how deep the deteriorated concrete is. Therefore, we can't bid the items correctly if a depth is not given.
Answer:
The Contractor is responsible to make some assumptions of the depth depending on the locations of repairs.

In response to the concrete repair items, please clarify what depth is to be assumed for bidding purposes. Usually these item is paid by the cubic foot or detail is given showing the depth.
Answer:
The depth of the repair at each location will be determined per Subsection 817.03.1 of the Standard Specifications. Per Subsection 817.04 of the Standard Specifications these items will be measured by the “Square Feet” of new concrete actually placed.

Please clarify the use of the traffic plates. Are the plates used only at the pier joints where the new asphaltic joints are placed.
Answer:
Temporary traffic plates are to be used as required to cover the deck joint openings during off-hours when the roadway is open to vehicular traffic.

since the concrete repiar items are paid by the SF and there are no details for the work, please clarify the required depth of the repairs.
Answer:
The depth of repair shall be sufficient to expose a bonding surface of sound material as per the Standard Specifications.
