Item 201.0440 is the pay item for known asbestos conduit where the estimated quantity has been provided in the DOQ. Item 201.9920 pays for suspected conduit materials that is determined to contain asbestos in accordance with the testing performed in Item 201.9910 Asbestos Abatement plan.

Is there a coating spec for the pedestrian railing?
Answer:
The coating specifications for the historic pedestrian rail will be the same as the 2-Bar Steel Bridge Rail. It will receive hot dipped galvanizing and painting. The color of the historic pedestrian rail will be per historic paint analysis to match the original paint color. The color of the 2-Bar Steel Bridge Rail and the aluminum Electrification Barrier will match the color of the historic pedestrian rail. These notes will be added to the respective plan sheets by addendum.

Sheet 52 Detail 1 shows the standard line post with crimped and welded C6 channel. Can we bolt the channel cap to the top of the post for panel and angle installation? Also after crimping the C6 the channel flanges will not be plumb.
Answer:
No. The appearance of the pedestrian rail must match the historic rail. Bolting will not be allowed at the indicated locations. After crimping of the C6, it is agreed that the channel flanges will not be plumb. The remaining historic pedestrian railing is located on top of the northeast retaining wall for viewing.

Section A-A shows 2 back to back angles with the 3/16” plate between them. 1 angle shows a ¼” gap between the post web and the angle end and the mating angle shows a larger gap. The 2 angles on the opposite side of the post web shows no gap. Can all of the gaps be opened up for the installation and fabrication process?
Answer:
The 1/4“ gap is only provided at the expansion joints. A maximum 1/16” gap is acceptable at other locations were the angles meet the posts.

Sheet 52 shows the pedestrian rail to be replaced. Section “B” and “E” shows the end post with 2 internal stiffener plates with welds inside and outside. There is not enough room to weld the internal welds. Can we just stitch weld as far in as possible and stitch weld the accessible area also?
Answer:
Yes. The detail will be modified by addendum to require welding from the accessible side only with 1/4” fillet welds 1” long at 6” on center.

Since an item was included to R & D Pavement and Rigid Base, the quantity for 202.9912 should have also changed to include only soils below the rigid base(concrete base). The existing concrete base removal quantity should not be included in 202.9912.

In response to the contaminated soils. It is difficult to estimate the disposal cost of the contaminated soils until test are performed and given to the disposal facility to determine the disposal cost. Usually the department includes an allowance item to cover the cost of the disposal and would be paid by the actual cost on the disposal slips. This has been done on every project that has been bid with contaminated soils. Please consider including an allowance item for the disposal fee.
Answer:
Soil test results/samples for this project are provided for your use in the Final Site Contamination Investigation Report located in Appendix E of the Contract Specific document that can be used for determining disposal costs. All of the soil is considered to be contaminated and within the same category.

Sheet 23 calls for the 12" Gas Line to be carried in a 20" Steel sleeve. Sheet 30 calls for it to be carried in a 16" Steel casing. Please clarify the size of the casing and confirm that it will fit above the existing backwall and below the new sidewalk.
Answer:
The 20” casing shown on sheet 23 is only at the backwalls. The 12” and 16” is passes through the 20” casing although only the 12” casing is called out in the detail. See sheet 58 “Gas Main Utility Details” for clarification of the gas main passing through the backwall and on the bridge.

Stay-in-place forms are allowed. The Contractor may submit for review and approval their proposed method of forming the deck, the proposed limits of temporary horizontal protective shielding to the extent they will be needed, and the proposed sequence of construction for installation of the forms under the appropriate railroad protection.
