City Centre Warwick

RIDOT and the Federal Highway Administration were proud to assist state and local agencies in the launch of City Centre Warwick, a new development district for the City of Warwick centered around T.F. Green Airport, the InterLink and our Commuter Rail station.

Commuter Rail to Warwick & South County

MBTA train at TF Green Station
An MBTA train makes an early-morning stop at T.F. Green Station in Warwick.

RIDOT has had a long partnership with the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA) for commuter rail service connecting Providence to Boston. Beginning with just five round trips per day to Providence in 1988, the MBTA now provides nearly 80 stops per week in Rhode Island.

In 2010, RIDOT and the MBTA worked together to extend that service south to the InterLink at T.F. Green State Airport in Warwick. On November 14, 2011, service to T.F. Green expanded to include 20 weekday stops. The expanded schedule provides service to and from the Airport that better matches up with flight departure and arrival times.

In 2012, RIDOT began commuter rail service from South County with the opening of the Wickford Junction Commuter Rail Station in North Kingstown on April 23. Like at T.F. Green Station, commuters will find 20 weekdays stops with service to and from Warwick and Providence, with 15 stops offering connecting service back and forth to Boston.

Aside from the tremendous rail-air link this service provides, Rhode Islanders now have access to in-state commuter rail, allowing them to choose to ride the train as opposed to driving on busy Route 4 or I-95.

RIPTA Bus Service Supplements Rail Schedule

The R.I. Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) provides frequent bus service to T.F. Green Station and T.F. Green State Airport. Those seeking to commute to work or to catch a flight at times when commuter rail service is not available will likely find a bus that fits their schedule.

The most frequent service is provided by Bus 14 and Bus 20 to the Airport terminal. Anyone taking a bus to and from the airport can simply use the Skywalk at the InterLink to reach the train station from the airport. Note that Bus 14 is an express and offers a shorter travel time.

RIPTA's Bus 8 provides service to the InterLink's front door on Jefferson Boulevard.

RIPTA also provides direct service to Wickford Junction four times each weekday via Bus 66. More frequent service is available to the commuter bus parking lot at Route 2 and 102, about a 10-minute walk to the station.
