The Project

We are nearing completion of a $25 million design-build project to replace two busy I-95 highway bridges located one after the other near Exit 30 and the Massachusetts border in Pawtucket.

The I-95 Corridor Bridges project replaced the Roosevelt Avenue and East Street Bridges. The bridges are functionally obsolete and carry approximately 90,000 vehicles per day.

Working in conjunction with the design-build team, RIDOT conducted a series of eight extended-weekend lane closures to demolish and replace different segments of each bridge. We announced the closures well in advance and encouraged drivers to consider alternate routes such as Route 146 and I-295. Each weekend closure was successful with little to no traffic delays.

We also were able to accelerate the weekend closure periods so the seventh and eight weekend closures took place in 2020 instead of 2021 which reduced the overall impact on motorists.

The entire project is scheduled to be finished in spring 2021.
