The project will resurface 10 miles of the Washington Secondary Bike Path, which connects the communities of Coventry, West Warwick, Warwick and Cranston. The path provides an efficient and safe link for cyclists and walkers within these communities for recreation and for commuting to work and school.
RIDOT began construction in Spring 2024 with full depth repairs to the path where large cracks or damage from tree roots had degraded the path surface. This approach will provide a more durable and long-lasting repair for the bike path. Paving will follow in late summer.
Work will take place during daytime and nighttime hours, with the path closed in sections at night but open with at least one lane during the daytime. All path users should exercise caution when traveling close to any construction zones.
The project also includes new fencing, pedestrian signal improvements, new signage and striping.
We’re nearing the finish line at this project. We anticipate paving our last segment of the path, from East Avenue to Providence Street in Warwick, Sunday and Monday nights of next week. Once that is done, we will stripe and install signage, currently targeted for the second week of October. Next week, we’ll also install our remaining segments of new wooden fencing, from Hay Street to Factory Street in West Warwick, and also work to complete the intersection and crossing improvements, from Hay Street to Brookside Avenue in West Warwick. These include new curbing, sidewalks, handicapped ramps and detectable warning treatments. |
