On Monday, August 28, 2006, the new Iway Providence River Bridge was set in place at its permanent location just south of the Fox Point Hurricane Barrier. This completed a week-long operation in which it was raised, moved onto two barges and transported to Providence with four tug boats moving the barges.
August 28 - Setting the Iway Providence River Bridge in place
With the help of the falling tide, the Providence Riber Bridge was set on its piers in just a couple of hours. By adjusting ballast in the barges, workers were able to successful position the bridge and lower it.

August 26 - Loading onto barges
The bridge was moved very slowly onto two barges. Ballast changes were constantly made to compensate for the bridge's weight.
August 21 - Lifting
Using a series of jacks, each with a 600-ton lifting capacity, the new Iway Providence River Bridge was raised from the pier where it was assembled at Quonset Point.
