RIDOT has 54 projects worth $137 million. Half of those must begin within 120 days.
RIDOT stands ready to put additional projects on the street using stimulus funds should more funding become available through redistribution of unused funds. Redistribution will take place 120 days following the date of apportionment, March 2, 2009; therefore, redistribution will take place on June 30, 2009.
The 54 projects identified will:
Impact every community in Rhode Island (excepting New Shoreham).
Perform needed long-term maintenance to the Jamestown-Verrazzano Bridge
Completely rehabilitate and/or replace 5 bridges.
Pay for two bridge cleaning contracts for washing of 130 of Rhode Island’s 772 bridges.
Complete drainage improvement projects in 8 communities.
Fund 2 Enhancement projects for sidewalk reconstruction projects in Providence.
Fund environmental preventative maintenance contracts including review and cleaning of 60 out of 130 advanced systems for handling storm water runoff.
Repair and replace various lengths of damaged, rusted or substandard guardrail throughout the State.
Reconstruct a portion of Hartford Avenue in Johnston.
Apply lane striping on State roads and highways in 20 communities in Northern Rhode Island, Providence, East Bay, and Aquidneck Island communities.
Replace substandard and non-functioning highway lighting on four exits on I-295 from Warwick to Johnston.
Address pavement deterioration with chip seal overlay and crack sealing on 80 miles of State roads and highways throughout Rhode Island.
Resurface approximately 45 miles of State roads and highways, including 7.6 miles of I-95 in southern Rhode Island.
Make various handicapped-accessible improvements to sidewalks in 4 communities.
Replace worn out highway signage on Route 37, Route 10 and portions of I-95 from West Greenwich to Pawtucket.
Install traffic monitoring devices at nearly 80 locations Statewide.
Complete a center median landscaping project to beautify Route 1 in South Kingstown.
Install or upgrade traffic signals at 26 intersections Statewide.
Complete maintenance and repair of traffic signals at 60 intersections Statewide.
