This project is addressing a number of bridge deficiencies and maintenance issues for five bridges in Providence, including those that carry essential roads connecting neighborhoods and business districts on either side of the I-95 corridor.
The structures include the Eddy Street Bridge, which carries I-95 over Eddy Street, which is in the final stage of phased construction during which traffic lanes have been shifted to provide a work zone for a portion of the bridge while keeping lanes open for the more than 167,000 vehicles per day that cross it.
We also are working on four bridge overpasses between I-195 and Exit 22 (Downtown, Routes 6/10). These include the Broad Street, Westminster Street, Washington Street and Broadway overpasses. Work on the bridges include full deck replacements for the Broadway and Broad Street bridges. Lanes are shifted on the Broadway Bridge with westbound only travel and eastbound only travel on the Broad Street Bridge for phased construction, with a detour in place for Broad Street westbound traffic.
Other work includes concrete repairs, concrete sealing, deck joint repair/replacement, steel beam repair, deck underside repairs and painting.
Final painting applications below the Broadway and Broad Street bridges require overnight closure of the on-ramps from Memorial Boulevard and Route 6 East to I-95 South, from Point Street to I-95 North and various lanes on I-95 North and South. Please follow signed detours.
