Interstate Highway Restrictions

I-95 North Viaduct, Providence

Providence: I-95 North motorists are using a new traffic pattern after the Downtown exit and near Providence Place Mall with a newly relocated Exit 38, about one mile south of its former location. RIDOT has posted numerous signs to clearly guide motorists to their destinations.  

Providence: I-95 North at Exit 37 B, C, D interchange, exit closure for bridge construction, Sun. – Thurs. nights, 11 p.m. – 6 a.m. Follow signed detour.

Providence: I-95, from Exit 38A to Exit 39A, alternating lane closures for barrier installation, Sun. – Thurs. night, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m.

Providence: Charles St. North, from Randall St. to Corliss St., alternating lane closures for bridge construction, Mon.-Fri., 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Providence: West Exchange St. East, from Sabin St. to Bradford St., partial sidewalk closure for pedestrians for construction, Mon. – Fri., 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Pedestrians will need to use adjacent sidewalk.

Washington Bridge, East Providence/Providence

East Providence/Providence: Bypass lanes for I-195 West traffic from East Providence to Providence are open. This temporary traffic pattern allows two lanes of travel westbound and two lanes of travel eastbound – all operating on the eastbound Washington Bridge. Expect delays.

East Providence/Providence: I-195 West, from South Main St. to Broadway, alternating lane closures to implement new six lane traffic pattern, Fri. night (April 19) at 9 p.m.-Sat. morning (April 20) by 9 a.m.

East Providence/Providence: I-195 East & West, from South Main St. to Broadway, alternating lane closures for milling & paving, Sun. – Fri. (April 26) nights, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m.

New Traffic Pattern

Cumberland: I-295, over Rte. 122 (Mendon Rd.), at the Mendon Rd. Bridge, travel lanes reduced from three to two for bridge work through late 2024.

Smithfield: I-295 South, from Rte. 7 overpass to Exit 12B (Rte. 44), shoulder closures for bridge work, Fri. & Sat. nights (April 19 and 20), 9 p.m. – 5 a.m.

Overnight

Hopkinton: I-95 South, from Exit 1 to the Connecticut State Line, alternating lane closures for road construction, Sun. – Fri. nights, 6 p.m. – 6 a.m.

Providence: On the ramp that connects East Franklin St. to I-95 North, ramp narrowing for bridge work, Sun.-Thurs. nights, 9 p.m.-5 a.m.

Smithfield: I-295, under Rte. 44 (Putnam Pke.), alternating lane closures for bridge work, Sun.-Thurs. nights, 9 p.m.-5 a.m.

West Greenwich: I-95, at the Victory Hwy. Bridge under Rte. 102 (Victory Hwy.), alternating lane closures for bridge work, Sun. – Thurs. nights, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m.

Weekday

Smithfield: I-295 South, from the Rte. 7 South overpass to Rte. 44 South Exit 12B, shoulder closures for bridge work, Mon. – Wed., 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Lincoln: Rte. 146, from Rte. 99 to Rte. 116, road closed for bridge construction, Tues. – Thurs. nights, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Follow signed detour.

Lincoln: Rte. 146 South Service Roads at Exit 8B (I-295 South), roads closed for bridge work, Sun. & Mon. nights, 9 p.m. – 6 a.m. Follow signed detours.

North Smithfield: Sayles Hill Rd. East, from Rte. 146 to Rte. 99, partial road closure (Sayles Hill Rd. West) for road construction & drainage work, Mon. – Fri., 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. Follow signed detour.

North Smithfield: Sayles Hill Rd. West, from Iron Mine Hill Rd. to Rte. 146, alternating lane closures for road construction, Mon. – Fri., 7 a.m. – 2 p.m.

North Smithfield: Travel lanes have shifted at the Rte. 146/Rte. 146A (Exit 10) interchange, with the following changes:

  • Rte. 146 North: both travel lanes have shifted to the right
  • Rte. 146 North, at Exit 10 (Rte. 146A): ramp narrows at the exit from two lanes to one
  • Rte. 146A South, at the off-ramp to Rte. 146 South: travel lanes are narrow

6/10 Interchange Project (Providence)

Route 10

  • The on-ramp from Union Ave. to Rte. 10 North will be closed for milling, Mon. – Wed. nights, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. Follow signed detour.
  • Rte. 10 North, from Union Ave. to Westminster St., alternating lane closures for milling, Mon. – Wed. nights, 8 p.m. – 5 a.m.
  • Rte. 10 South, from the 6/10 split to Westminster St., right lane closed for barrier work, Mon. – Fri., 6:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
  • Rte. 10 South, all lanes shift to the left near the Broadway overpass.
  • Westminster Street off-ramp is temporarily closed.

Route 6

  • No lane closures expected.

6/10 Connector

  • On the Connector outbound a new lane split is in place for Rte. 10 South and Rte. 6 West, several hundred feet south of its previous location. Lanes are narrow.

Affected City Streets

  • The Tobey St. and Harris Ave. on-ramps are closed. Follow signed detours.
  • Traffic shifted on the Broadway and Westminster St. bridges over the highway.
  • Westminster St. on-ramp to Rte. 10 South is closed. Follow signed detour.

Project-wide

  • Periodic one-lane closures possible along Rte. 10 and Rte. 6 on off-peak hours, Mon. – Fri.

Temporary Ramp Closures

Lincoln: The on-ramps from Breakneck Hill Rd. to Rte. 146 remain closed for bridge work until further notice. Follow signed detour.

New Traffic Pattern

Providence: All traffic on Rte. 146 South under the Hawkins St. Bridge has shifted to the left through early May, then will shift to the right until the end of June.

Weekend

Providence: Rte. 146, from the State Police Barracks to I-95, motorists should expect a rolling roadblock for overhead utility work, Sun., 5 a.m. – 8 a.m.

Overnight

Providence: Rte. 146 South, from Branch Ave. to Hawkins St. bridge, left lane closure for bridge repairs, Sun. night, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.

Weekday

Providence/North Providence/Lincoln: Rte. 146, from Branch Ave. to I-95, watch for our crews behind barrier in a moving operation for sign work, Mon.-Fri., 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Henderson Bridge (East Providence, Providence)

East Providence: Henderson Pkwy. West, at the off-ramp to Massasoit, ramp closed for construction. Follow signed detour.

East Providence:  Henderson Bridge, from South Angell St. to Waterman Ave., alternating lane closures for curbing & drainage installation, Mon. – Fri., 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

East Providence: Massasoit Ave., from Dexter St. to Waterman Ave., including the roundabout, shoulder closures for drainage, curbing & sidewalk installation, Mon. – Fri., 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Temporary Bridge Closure

Johnston/North Providence: The Greystone Sluiceway Bridge on Greystone Ave. over the Woonasquatucket River, between Riverside Ave. in Johnston and Rte. 104 (Waterman Ave.) in North Providence, is closed. Follow signed detour using Waterman Ave. and Rte. 44 (Putnam Pke.)

Weekday

East Providence:  Rte. 114, from Hunts Mill Rd. to Ledge St., alternating lane closures for sidewalk repair & guardrail installation, Mon. – Fri., 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Providence: Allens Ave., from Henderson St. to Globe St., right lane closure for road work, Mon. – Fri., 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. This operation will be active from April 22 – May 17.    

Continuing

Newport: America’s Cup Ave., from Poplar St. to Farewell St., and Farewell St., from America’s Cup Ave. to Van Zandt Ave., motorists should use caution for crews performing electrical work in the shoulders, Mon. – Fri., 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.

New Traffic Pattern

Cumberland: Rte. 122 (Mendon Rd.), from Rte. 116 (George Washington Hwy.) to Albion Rd., right lane closed/shifted with frequent vehicle access in/out of work zone for bridge work, through May 2024.

Overnight

Burrillville: Rte. 102, between Rte. 107 (East Ave.) and Central St., right lane closed to establish a new traffic pattern, Fri. night (April 26), 8 p.m.-midnight. Effective Sat. morning (April 27), all traffic will shift to the Rte. 102 southbound side of the bridge through late June.

Cumberland: Rte. 122 (Mendon Rd.) from the Lincoln town line to I-295, right shoulder closures in a moving operation for saw cutting, Thurs. & Fri., 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.
