Question:
Addendum #4 revised the bridge washing list on page CS-11 showing Bridges 43 and 44 no longer being washed, however, there remains 2 bid items for washing these bridges. Was it the intent to eliminate these bridges from the special bridge washing directions on Sheet CS-7 that reduces the beam washing limits since these bridges do not have beams and still have the other elements of the bridge washed? Please clarify.
Answer:
Thank you for your question. Bridges 43 and 44 shall have only the sidewalk and railings concrete bases washed. This will be clarified in Addendum No. 5.

Question:
Regarding the surface preparation of the existing decks for the penetrating sealer, Item 820.9997, the manufacturers accept various methods such as shotblasting, sandblasting and waterblasting. However, it waterblasting is used the substrate must be completely dry prior to application. The manufacturers have recommended waiting 48 hours before sealing if this method is used. Is it acceptable to RIDOT to reopen the decks to traffic and blow off the deck before sealing or will shotblasting or sandblasting just prior to sealing be required?
Answer:
Thank you for your question. It will not be acceptable to reopen the deck to traffic and then blow off the deck prior to sealing. Shot blasting or sandblasting just prior to sealing is required.
