Item 807.9901 - Fill voids in masonry. Please clarify where the voids are located at the east abutment. The quantity of 100 CF seems excessive. Please recheck quantity.
Answer:
The high quantity is due to the unknown condition of the masonry underwater. After the Contractor removes the superstructure, the beavers, and the debris, the extent of the voids will be determined and repaired (with a diver) per Special Provision 807.9901.

Please clarify how the precast substructure elements are paid for. Can all the substructure elements be cast in place?
Answer:
The precast substructure elements shall be paid for under their respective pay item and conform to Special Provision Code 809.99. At this time, RIDOT prefers to adhere to the contract documents as shown, therefore the Contractor shall bid according to the bidding documents. If the Contractor elects to submit this request post award and the Department considers it for review and approval, the Contractor will be responsible for any and all costs and time impacts associated with additional engineering reviews. The Department has the sole right to approve or deny this request. In the event that the request is ultimately denied, all schedule and cost impacts will be born solely by the Contractor.

On sheet 7/29, there is a note that states all concrete is to be Class HP 3/4 - 5000 psi, however there are several bid items that indicate Class XX concrete for some bridge components. Please clarify which classes of concrete are required.
Answer:
Sheet No. 7 will be revised by Addendum to show Class XX Concrete for Approach Slabs and Footings. Special Provision Code 809.99 will also be revised to reference plans for Concrete Class.

Special Provision Code 809.99 “Precast Concrete” will be modified by Addendum to waive the precast plant requirement for the deck.
