The West River Street Bridge project includes replacement of Bridge No. 088301 over the West River in Providence, RI. The Bridge was built in 1955 and is rated as structurally deficient. It carries approximately 8,000 vehicles per day and serves as an important connector road between Branch Avenue and Charles Street, providing access to numerous businesses. RIDOT will replace the existing bridge along with drainage, sidewalk and ADA improvements. To replace the bridge as quickly as possible, RIDOT will close it to vehicular traffic for approximately four months. During the closure, there will be temporary signal lights installed at the intersection of West River Street and Charles Street to assist detouring traffic. Pedestrian crossings will be allowed throughout all phases of the project.

The West River Street Bridge is anticipated to reopen by Saturday afternoon, December 7. Work should continue through the winter, as crews construct its western sidewalk, install bridge rail, and remove/replace drainage structures and curbing. We will then demolish the remaining portions of the existing bridge and reconstruct its components. |
