Interstate Highway Restrictions

I-295/Rte. 6 Bridge Rehabilitation This Weekend

As part of the I-295/Rte. 6 Bridge rehabilitation project, motorists can expect the following changes this weekend:

Saturday night, Nov. 17 from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.:

  • I-295 North, from Scituate Ave. to Greenville Ave., alternating lane closures for striping. Delays anticipated.
  • Closure of the northbound service road. Access maintained to Exits 9A and 9C. Follow signed detour.
  • Closure of Exit 9B. Follow signed detour.
  • Lane restrictions from two to one on the ramp from Rte. 6 West to I-295 North. Delays anticipated.

Sunday night, Nov. 18 from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m.:

  • I-295 South, from Greenville Ave. to Scituate Ave., alternating lane closures for striping. Delays anticipated.
  • Closure of the southbound service road.  Access maintained to Exits 9C and 9A. Follow signed detour.
  • Minor delays anticipated on ramp from Rte. 6 East to I-295 South given closure of southbound service road.
  • Closure of on-ramp from Hartford Ave. West to I-295 South. Left turn access off Hartford Ave. to I-295 South used by Hartford Ave. East traffic.

Please note: At the new traffic pattern on I-295 South, make sure you stay on the highway for Exit 9A for Route 6 to Providence. Don't take the first exit (9C), which is now Hartford Avenue only.

Friday Night, November 16

East Providence/Providence: I-195 West, from the Broadway on-ramp to the Gano St. on-ramp, alternating lane closures for construction, Fri. night, Nov. 16 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. Please note: the on-ramp from Taunton Ave. to I-195 West will also be closed at this time. Follow signed detour.

Weekend

I-195 Richmond/Hopkinton: I-95 North and South, from Exit 2 and Exit 3, right lane closures for paving, Sat. from 5 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Delays possible.

Temporary Exit Closures

I-195 Pawtucket: I-95 South at Exit 30, exit closed for bridge rehabilitation through mid-December. Follow signed detours.

Providence/East Providence:
As part of ongoing repairs to the Washington Bridge Westbound, Exit 3 (Gano St.) off of I-195 West is closed through Fall 2019. Follow signed detour.

Smithfield: I-295 South at Exit 15A (Rte. 7 South), exit closed for bridge work, Sun.-Tues. nights from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Please note: the on-ramp from Rte. 7 South to I-295 South will also be closed at this time. Follow signed detour.

Ongoing Traffic Patterns

I-195 Providence: The previous traffic pattern with lane splits on I-95 North and South at Exit 19 has been modified, with all lanes now shifted to the left.

Providence/East Providence: I-195 West and East, from the Washington Bridge to the Mass. line, lane shifts in place.

Overnight

I-195 Cranston: I-95 North and South, from Exit 16 (Elmwood Ave.) North and Exit 16B (Elmwood Ave.) South to Huntington Viaduct Bridge, alternating lane closures for bridge painting, Sun.-Tues. nights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Please note: the following access roads and ramps will be temporarily closed during this operation, Sun.-Tues. nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.: Access Rd. off I-95 South at Exit 16B; the ramp from I-95 South to Rte. 10 South toward Rte. 12 (Park Ave.); and the on-ramp from Rte. 10 North to I-95 South. East Providence: I-195 East, from Exit 5 to Exit 6, right lane closed for pavement repair, Tues. night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

East Providence:
I-195 East, from Exit 6 to the Horton Farm Bridge and I-195 West, from the Mass. state line to the Pawtucket Ave. Bridge, left lane closures for bridge work, Sun.-Tues. nights from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

North Providence to Woonsocket: I-295 North and South, from Exit 12 to Exit 18, watch for our crews in a moving operation for sign work, Tues. night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

I-195 Providence: I-95 North at Exit 23, on the ramp to Rte. 146 North, right lane closed for construction, Mon. night from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m.

I-195 Warwick to Providence: I-95 North and South, from Exit 10 to Exit 22, watch for our crews in a moving operation for sign work, Tues. night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Weekday

Richmond: I-95 North and South, from Exit 2 to Exit 3, lane and shoulder closures for construction, Mon. and Tues. from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Other Limited Access Highway Restrictions

6/10 Interchange Project

As part of the 6/10 Interchange Reconstruction Project, motorists are experiencing the following changes:

  • Rte. 6 East at Broadway, exit closed for construction for approximately 24 months. Follow signed detour.
  • Rte. 10 North, from Union Ave. to the Tobey St. overpass, traffic shifts to the temporary Rte. 10 North and temporary Westminster St. ramp for approximately 24 months.
  • Traffic shifts to the right on Rte. 6 West, from the Tobey St. overpass to Hartford Ave. for approximately 12 months.
  • One of two lanes closed on Westminster St. East, from Barton St. to Olneyville Square for approximately 12 months.
  • Traffic shifts on Broadway, from Barton St. to Olneyville Square for approximately 12 months.

Daytime work anticipated behind barrier at the 6/10 Interchange.

New Traffic Pattern

Lincoln/Cumberland: Rte. 99 South, on the ramp to Route 146 South, left lane closed with all traffic shifted to the right.  Crews are working weekdays from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Overnight

Cranston: Rte. 37 East and West at Pontiac Ave. and New London Ave., ramps narrowed in a moving operation for sign work, Tues. night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

East Greenwich: Rte. 4 South, from I-95 to Division St., right lane and shoulder closures for tree trimming, Mon. and Tues. nights from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Lincoln: Rte. 146 South at Breakneck Hill Rd., left lane closed for bridge work, Mon. and Tues. nights from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Lincoln/Cumberland:
Rte. 99 South, from the Sayles Hill Rd. on-ramp to the Rte. 146 exit, left lane closed for a traffic pattern change, Mon. night from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Providence:
Rte. 6 East and West, from Rte. 128 (Killingly St.) to Rte. 6A, alternating lane closures for a bridge inspection, Sun. and Mon. nights from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Providence: Rte. 10 South at Exit 5 (Union Ave.), alternating lane closures and ramp narrowing for a bridge inspection, Tues. night from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

North Smithfield: Rte. 146 North and South, from the Woonsocket Hill Rd. Bridge to the Pound Hill Rd. Bridge, alternating lane closures for bridge work, Sun.-Tues. nights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Providence: Rte. 6 West, from Rte. 10 to the Glendale Pedestrian Bridge, left lane closed for barrier placement, Mon.-Wed. from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Westerly:
Rte. 78 East and West, from the Connecticut line to Post Rd., partial lane and shoulder closures in a moving operation for construction, Mon.-Wed. and Fri. from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Westerly: Rte. 78 East and West, at the Waterworks Bridge over the Pawcatuck River just before the Conn. line, right shoulder closures for bridge work, Mon.-Wed. from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Continuing

Providence: Truck traffic is restricted to the right lane from the Westminster St. overpass over Rte. 10 South/Rte. 6 West to the Rte. 6/Rte. 10 interchange, and on Rte. 6 East at the Rte. 6/Rte. 10 interchange.

East Providence: The Lyon Avenue Bridge over I-195, from School St. to Freeborn Ave., is currently closed. Follow signed detour via Purchase St.

Temporary Road Closures

Providence: Blackstone St. East and West, from Allens Ave. to Eddy St., is currently closed. Local access to the Women and Infants Breast Health Ctr. will be maintained. Get Detour Map »

Providence: Dorrance St., east of Dyer St. will be closed for construction effective Monday, May 7 through June 2019.

Ongoing Traffic Patterns

Cranston: Motorists are experiencing a new traffic pattern on Rte. 12 (Scituate Ave.) East and West over I-295 at the Lawton Bridge. The right lane is open in each direction, with the work zone shifted to the center of the bridge. This new traffic pattern should be in place through Fall 2018.

East Providence: The right lane of the East Shore Expressway, starting before the Horton Farm Bridge, is currently closed through the end of 2018.

Overnight

Cranston: Pontiac Ave. at Rte. 37, watch for our crews in a moving operation for sign work, Tues. night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

East Providence: Veterans Memorial Pkwy. at Pawtucket Ave., alternating one-way traffic for traffic signal work, Mon. night from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Weekday

Cranston/Johnston: Rte. 14 (Plainfield Pike) West, from Simmonsville Ave. to the I-295 South on-ramp, right lane closed for construction, Mon.-Wed. from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Cranston:
Rte. 1 (Elmwood Ave.) North and South at Park Ave. East and West, partial lane and shoulder closures for construction, Mon.-Wed. and Fri. from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Providence: Point St. East and West, just before and after the Point St. Bridge, alternating lane closures for a bridge inspection, Mon. from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Burrillville: The Railroad Ave. Bridge, carrying Railroad Ave. just east of Chapel St. over the Clear River, is closed through Fall 2018.

Rte. 3 East and West, from Burnt Sawmill Rd. to Kitts Corner Rd., travel lanes reduced from 4 to 2 and eastbound and westbound traffic shifted to the west side of the Big River Bridge for construction through December 2018.

West Greenwich: Rte. 102 (Victory Hwy.) North and South, over I-95 at the Victory Hwy. Bridge, lane shift and shoulder closures remain in place for construction, weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
