Interstate Highway Restrictions

I-295/Rte. 6 Bridge Rehabilitation (Johnston)

I-295

  • Closure of the southbound through lanes. Through traffic will utilize the new bridges on the service road.
  • Access will be maintained for ramps to Rte. 6 West to Hartford, Conn. (Exit 9C) and Rte. 6 East to Providence (Exit 9A).
  • The on-ramp from Hartford Ave./Rte. 6A West to I-295 South will remain closed.
  • Alternating lane closures for crack sealing, from Exit 9A to Exit 9C, Thurs. night, 8 p.m.-6 a.m.

Rte. 6 and Rte. 6A (Hartford Ave.)

  • Lane closed on the ramp from Rte. 6 West to I-295 North.
  • Lane closures possible on both Rte. 6 and Rte. 6A at the I-295 overpasses.
  • On-ramp closed from Rte. 6A West to I-295 South. Left turns permitted for nearby on-ramp normally used by Rte. 6A East traffic.

Temporary Exit Closures

Providence: I-95 North, Exit 22 B/C will be closed for construction, Sun.-Tues. nights, 9 p.m.-5 a.m.

New Traffic Pattern

Providence: The I-95 North off-ramp to Rte. 146 North at Exit 23, a new traffic pattern will be in place until mid-Fall, and will change when all lanes shift to the right for the last phase of construction. Final completion of the project is scheduled for Fall 2020.

Warwick: I-95 North, over the Hopkins Hill Rd. Bridge, left lane shifted for construction, until December 15, 2019.

Cumberland: I-295, from Exit 20 to Exit 22, partial right lane closure for construction, Tues.-Thurs. nights, 8 p.m.-6 a.m.

Providence: I-95 North, at Exit 22 A-B-C, right lane closed for a bridge inspection, Thurs. night, 9 p.m.-4 a.m.

Providence: I-95 North and South, from Exit 18 to 19 on the Oxford Street Bridge:

  • The Thurbers Ave. on-ramp and Exit 19 on I-95 North, and Exit 18 on I-95 South will be closed as needed for final construction, Tues.-Thurs. nights, 8 p.m.-6 a.m.

Providence: I-95, from Smithfield Ave. to Branch Ave., alternating lane closures for construction, Mon.-Thurs. nights, 9 p.m.-5 a.m.

Richmond:
I-95 South, from Baker Pines Bridge to Mechanic St., left lane closed for drainage work, Thurs. night, 9 p.m.-6 a.m.

Warwick: I-95, at the Greenwich Ave. Bridge, shoulder closures for bridge work, Tues.-Fri., 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Ongoing Traffic Patterns

Cumberland: I-295, from Exit 20 to Exit 22, lane shifts to the right, with only two lanes of travel open in each direction for bridge work through Spring 2020.

Hopkinton/Richmond: I-95, from Exit 2 to Exit 3, lane shifts for bridge work through June 2020.

  • Two northbound lanes will be shift to the left from the exterior to the median area

Providence/East Providence: Lane shifts are in place on I-195 West, from just after Broadway to the Washington Bridge, and I-195 East, from Pawtucket Ave. to the Mass. line.

6/10 Interchange Project (Providence)

Rte. 6

  • Rte. 6 East, all traffic shifted onto the existing Rte. 6 West roadway just after the Hartford Ave. exit. Lanes are narrow.
  • The Broadway off ramp is closed.
  • Rte. 6 East, from Hartford Ave. off-ramp to Rte. 10, left lane closed for construction, Tues.-Fri., 7 a.m.-2 p.m.
  • Rte. 6 below the Glenbridge Ave. Bridge, from Killingly St. to Hartford Ave., alternating lane closures for a bridge inspection, Tues.-Wed., 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Rte. 10

  • Rte. 10 North, from Union Ave. to the Tobey St. overpass, lane shift in place for through traffic and the Westminster St. off-ramp.
  • Rte. 10 South, from Broadway to Union Ave., left lane closed for construction, Tues.-Fri., 7 a.m.-2 p.m.

6/10 Connector

  • On Connector outbound a new lane split is in place for Rte. 10 South and Route 6 West, one-half mile before its original location. Lanes are narrow.

Affected City Streets

  • Traffic from the Tobey St./Harris Ave. on-ramp does not have direct access to Rte. 10 South. Follow detour signs.
  • Traffic shifted on the Broadway and Westminster St. bridges over the highway.

Project-wide

  • Periodic one-lane closures possible along Rte. 10 and Rte. 6 on off-peak hours Monday-Friday.

Temporary Road Closures

North Kingstown: Rte. 4 South, from the Wickford exit to the Lafayette Bridge, will be temporarily closed for construction, Wed., at midnight for about 10 min.

New Traffic Patterns

Lincoln: Rte. 146 North, at the Rte. 116/George Washington Highway interchange, lane shifts are in place and will move traffic onto the off-ramp to Rte. 116, Thurs. night.  Lanes will be narrowed, reduce speed and plan ahead.

North Smithfield: Rte. 146, near the Rte. 5/Rte. 102 (Forestdale/Slatersville) exit and the Central Street overpass, lane splits are in place with one lane of through traffic on either side of the split. All lanes go through; stay in your lane.

Providence: A new traffic pattern is in place on Rte. 6, from Hartford Ave. to Killingly St. All lanes shift to the left and one of the three lanes will be closed for bridge construction through Spring 2021.

East Greenwich/North Kingstown: Rte. 4, from Oak Hill Rd. to Rte. 2, left lane closed in a moving operation for sweeping, Tues. night, 11 p.m.-6 a.m.

Rte. 146 South, at Rte. 116, left lane closed for guardrail removal and installation, Thurs. night, 8 p.m.-6 a.m.
