Interstate Highway Restrictions

Overnight Lane Closures

I-195 Pawtucket: As part of the Pine St. Bridge Replacement Project, I-95 North and South at Exit 27 is scheduled to close for the following nights from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.:

  • Sun. July 22 and Thurs. July 26: I-95 North ONLY
  • Mon. July 23 and Wed. July 25: I-95 South ONLY

New Lane Split on I-95 North and South in Providence

I-195 Providence: On I-95 North and South at Exit 19, there is a lane split because of bridge construction with two lanes to the left of the split and one to the right. DO NOT CHANGE LANES - ALL LANES GO THROUGH. Trucks must use the right lane in this area. Only the right lane on I-95 North can be used for Exit 19 to I-195 East and Exit 20 to Point St.

Ongoing Traffic Patterns

I-195 Providence: I-95 South, from Exit 19 to Exit 18, and I-95 North, from Exit 18 to Exit 20, lanes shifted to the right for construction through Summer 2018.

Providence/East Providence: I-195 West and East, from the Washington Bridge to the Mass. line, lane shifts in place.

Overnight

I-195 Cranston: I-95 North and South, from Exit 15 to Exit 18, alternating double lane closures for a bridge inspection, Sun. and Mon. nights from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Please note: there will also be lane shifts under the Rte. 10 overpass.

Exeter/Richmond: I-95 South, from the Rte. 165 overpass to the Baker Pines Bridge, left lane closed for drainage work, Mon. night from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

I-195 Hopkinton to Warwick: 
I-95 North and South, including the ramps, from Exit 1 to Exit 15, expect alternating lane closures in a moving operation for striping, Sun.-Thurs. nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Johnston
: I-295 South, from Exit 12A to Exit 9A, right lane closed for construction, Thurs. night from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Providence:
On the ramps from I-195 West to I-95 North, and from I-95 North to Point St., ramps narrowed for bridge washing, Sun.-Thurs. nights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

I-195 Warwick: I-95 South, from Rte. 2 to Service Rd., including the ramps, lane and temporary ramp closures for paving, Sun.-Thurs. nights from 8 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. Delays anticipated. Follow signed detours.

Weekday

Cranston/Johnston: I-295 North and South, from Exit 3B to Exit 7, watch for our crews in a moving operation for survey work, Wed. from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Johnston:
I-295 North, from Scituate Ave. overpass in Cranston to Exit 6, right lane closed for drainage work, Mon. from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

I-195 West Greenwich: I-95 North and South, from Exit 5A to Exit 5B, bridge work behind barrier and in median, Mon.-Fri. from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Ongoing Restriction

Johnston: I-295 North and South at Rte. 5 (Greenville Ave.) between Rte. 6 (Exit 9A and Exit 9B) and Rte. 44 (Exit 12A and 12B), right shoulder closures for construction, through Summer 2018.

Westerly: Rte. 78 East and West, at the Waterworks Bridge over the Pawcatuck River just before the Conn. line, bridge work behind barrier, Sat. from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

New Traffic Pattern

Providence: Motorists are experiencing various shoulder closures on Rte. 10 South between Westminster St. and Exit 5 (Union Ave.) for utility work through Summer 2018.

Overnight

Rte 37 Cranston/Warwick: Rte. 37 East and West, from Post Rd. to Phenix Ave., expect alternating lane closures in a moving operation for striping, Sun.-Thurs. nights from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.

North Kingstown:
Rte. 1 North and South, from Rte. 102 to Mooresfield Rd., left lane closures in a moving operation for mowing, Mon. night from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Portsmouth: Rte. 24 South, from just south of the Sakonnet River Bridge to Rte. 114 (West Main Rd.), lane and temporary ramp closures in a moving operation for paving, Sun.-Thurs. nights from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Delays anticipated. Follow signed detour.

Charlestown/South Kingstown: Rte. 1 North and South, from Cross Mills Rd. to Tuckertown Rd., partial left lane closures in a moving operation for weed whacking, Mon.-Wed. from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Cumberland and Lincoln
: Rte. 99 North, from Sayles Hill Rd. to Rte. 122 (Mendon Rd.), and Rte. 99 South, from Sayles Hill Rd. to Rte. 146 South and from the Rte. 99 split with Rte. 144 North to Parent Ct., watch for our crews in a moving operation for survey work, Tues. from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

North Smithfield
: Rte. 104/Downtown Woonsocket exit to the Pound Hill Rd. exit, bridge work behind barrier, Mon.-Fri. from 6 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Providence: Rte. 10 North, from Union Ave. to Broadway, right lane closed for construction, Mon.-Fri. from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

South Kingstown:
Rte. 1 North and South, from Succotash Rd. to the Charlestown line, lane, shoulder and possible ramp closures for construction, Mon.-Fri. from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Expect delays.

Rte 6 Rte 10 Providence: Truck traffic is restricted to the right lane from the Westminster St. overpass over Rte. 10 South/Rte. 6 West to the Rte. 6/Rte. 10 interchange, and on Rte. 6 East at the Rte. 6/Rte. 10 interchange.

Rte 24 Tiverton/Portsmouth: Rte. 24 South at the Old Sakonnet River Bridge, please watch for construction vehicles exiting and entering the shoulder to access the construction site, weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Summer 2018.

Rte 4 Warwick: Rte. 4 South, from the I-95 split to Exit 8 (Rte. 2/East Greenwich), right shoulder closed through late Fall 2018.

Metropolitan Providence

East Providence: The Purchase St. Bridge over I-195, from School St. to Freeborn Ave., is currently closed. Follow signed detour via Potter St.

Pawtucket: The Pine St. Bridge, carrying northbound traffic on Pine St., between Marrin St. and Cedar St. over I-95, is closed for approximately four months. Get Detour Maps »

Providence: The Bath St. East Bridge, which spans the Woonasquatucket River and carries two-way traffic between Kinsley Ave./Providence Place and Promenade St., is currently closed. Get Detour Maps »

Temporary Road Closures

Providence: Blackstone St. East and West, from Allens Ave. to Eddy St., is currently closed. Local access to the Women and Infants Breast Health Ctr. will be maintained. Get Detour Map »

Providence: Effective Mon. July 23, Service Rd., from Willow St. to Marvin St., will be closed for construction. One-way travel is permitted from Oak St. to Marvin St.

Providence: Dorrance St., east of Dyer St. is closed for construction through June 2019.

New Traffic Patterns

Cranston: Motorists are experiencing a new traffic pattern on Rte. 12 (Scituate Ave.) East and West over I-295 at the Lawton Bridge. The right lane is open in each direction, with the work zone shifted to the center of the bridge. This new traffic pattern should be in place through Fall 2018.

East Providence: The right lane of the East Shore Expressway, starting before the Horton Farm Bridge, is currently closed through the end of 2018.

Overnight

East Providence: I-195 East and West at Taunton Ave., right lanes closed for bridge washing, Sun.-Thurs. nights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Weekday

Central Falls: Railroad St. North and South, from Summit Ave. to Fales St., alternating one-way traffic for a bridge inspection, Fri. from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Cranston: Rte. 2 North and South, from Shortway Rd. to Park Ave. right lane closed for construction, Mon.-Fri. from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Providence: Killingly St. North under Rte. 6, right lane closed for a bridge inspection, Thurs. from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Temporary Bridge Closures

Burrillville: The Railroad Ave. Bridge, carrying Railroad Ave. just east of Chapel St. over the Clear River, is closed through Fall 2018.

Cumberland: The Town-owned Howard Rd. Bridge, which carries Howard Rd. over Abbott Run, is currently closed. Please follow signed detour via Abbot Run Valley Rd. in Cumberland or from Paine Rd. in Massachusetts. More information is available here.

Johnston: The Simmonsville Bridge, carrying Simmonsville Ave. over the Simmons Brook between Randall Ave. and Russo Dr., is closed through November. Get Detour Map »

Ongoing Traffic Patterns
