Interstate Highway Restrictions

Overnight

I-95 Providence: I-95 North, from Exit 22 (Downtown Providence/Rtes. 6 & 10) to Exit 23 (Atwells Ave.), right lane closed for bridge work, Wednesday night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following day. Please note: the on-ramp from Atwells Ave. to I-95 North will also be closed at this time. Follow signed detour via Sabin St., Francis St. and Memorial Blvd.

Weekday

I-95 Warwick: I-95 North, from Exit 13 (Airport Connector) to Exit 15 (Jefferson Blvd.), left lane closed for highway lighting work, Monday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Ongoing Restrictions

I-95 Exeter/Richmond: Watch for construction vehicles exiting and entering the median area along I-95 South after Exit 5 (Rte. 102) at the Tefft Hill Trail Bridge, weekdays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through Spring 2017.

I-195 Providence: I-195 East, from the I-95 interchange to Exit 2 (India St./Gano St.), left shoulder closure for construction through March 2017.

Rte 99 Cumberland: Rte. 99 North and South at the Sayles Hill Rd. interchange, watch for our crews in a moving operation for overhead lighting work, Monday-Thursday nights from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m. the following day.

Weekday

Rte 24 Tiverton and Portsmouth: Rte. 24 North and South, from West Main Rd. to the Massachusetts state line, partial right lane closure for sweeping, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Continuing

Rte 6 Rte 10 Providence: Truck traffic is restricted to the right lane from the Westminster St. overpass over Rte. 10 South/Rte. 6 West to the Rte. 6/Rte. 10 interchange, and on Rte. 6 East at the Rte. 6/Rte. 10 interchange.

Metropolitan Providence

Temporary Ramp Closure

Providence: The on-ramp from Atwells Ave. to I-95 North will be closed for bridge work, Wednesday night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following day. Follow signed detour via Sabin St., Francis St. and Memorial Blvd.

Rte 6 East Providence: Rte. 6 East, from Moorland Ave. to Boyd Ave., right lane closed for utility work, Saturday night from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following day.

Cranston: Power Rd. North and South, under Rte. 37 East and West, shoulder closures and possible alternating traffic for bridge work, Tuesday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Rte 114 East Providence: Rte. 114 South, from the I-195 East off-ramp to the Wampanoag Trail at Exit 7 to the East Shore Expressway, left lane closed for drainage work, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

East Providence: Pawtucket Ave. South, from Waterman Ave. to Warren Ave., right lane closed for utility work, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Johnston: Simmonsville Ave. North and South, over the Simmonsville Ave. Bridge, from Fountain Ave. to Tartaglia St., alternating one-way traffic for survey work, Wednesday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Pawtucket: Exchange St. at Broadway, right lane and shoulder closures for survey work, Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Rte 128 Providence: Rte. 128 (Killingly St.) South and North below Rte. 6 at the Killingly St. exit, alternating lane closures for a bridge inspection, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

  • Wednesday: Rte. 128 North

Providence: Providence Place, from Harris Ave. to Park St.; and Promenade St., from Park St. to Holden St., left lane closures for a bridge inspection, Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Rte 44 Providence: Rte. 44 (Smith St.) East, from Gaspee St. to Canal St., right lane and sidewalk closures for barrier placement through Spring 2017.

Continuing

Providence: Elmwood Ave. North and South, from the I-95 underpass to the entrance to Roger Williams Park, has continuous alternating lane closures for construction and bridge work through May 2018.

Newport County

Weekday

Newport: Gladys Carr Bolhouse Rd. (Goat Island Causeway) East and West, from Washington St. to Goat Island Rd., alternating one-way traffic with a partial right lane closure for a bridge inspection, Tuesday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Ongoing Restriction

Newport: In order to accommodate construction work at the Newport Transportation and Visitors Center, motorists will experience a right lane closure on America’s Cup Ave., from Gladys Carr Bolhouse Rd. to West Marlborough St., through June 2017.  RIPTA has designated temporary bus stop locations along America’s Cup Avenue since the Visitors’ Center boarding area will be closed for the duration of the project.  For more information, please visit https://www.ripta.com/newport-gateway-center

Temporary Bridge Closure

Smithfield: The Capron Rd. Bridge that carries Capron Rd. over a tributary of the Woonasquatucket River, between Stillwater Rd. and Kane Rd., is currently closed through late Fall 2017. Get Detour Maps»

Rte 5 North Smithfield: Rte. 5 (Providence Pike), between Main St. and Church St. in Slatersville, there is a single-lane alternating traffic pattern due to bridge condition. Portable traffic signals are in place to direct vehicles over the bridge.

Rte 122 Woonsocket: On Rte. 122 (Hamlet Ave.) at the Hamlet Avenue Bridge over the Blackstone River, temporary lane shifts possible for bridge work through Fall 2017.

Rte 1 Warwick: Rte. 1 (Post Rd.) North from #2138 to #2000, right lane closed for sidewalk sweeping, Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon.

Warwick: Warwick Ave. North, from Rte. 1 (Post Rd.) to Rte. 12 (Park Ave.), right lane closed in a moving operation for drainage work, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Rte 5 Warwick: Rte. 5 (Greenwich Ave.) South, from Post Rd./Centerville Rd. (Apponaug Four Corners) to Veterans Memorial Dr., lane closures and lane shifts for construction, Monday-Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Delays anticipated.

117 Warwick: Rte. 117 (Centerville Rd.), east of Meadow St. (Burger King entrance) to Post Rd., one lane closed for construction, Monday-Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Continuing

Rte 2 Warwick: Rte. 2 North, from Rhode Island Mall to the I-295 overpass, left lane closed for bridge work through Summer 2017.

117 Warwick: Rte. 117 (Centerville Rd.), from Meadow St./Burger King to Post Rd. (Apponaug Four Corners), Eastbound and Westbound traffic are now using the Veterans Memorial Dr. Extension.  Centerville Rd. is closed to thru traffic from Post Rd. to Meadow St. Please note: access to/from businesses is maintained.

Warwick: A temporary traffic signal has been activated at the Metro Center Blvd. Bridge carrying Metro Center Blvd. over the Airport Connector. With this activation, the detour has been removed. Motorists will now experience one lane of alternating traffic, and possible delays, through Winter 2017.

Warwick: Airport Connector East at the Jefferson Blvd. off-ramp, lanes shifted to the high speed lane, with all exits open. Westbound traffic will continue through the current configuration through Winter 2017.
