Route 37 Improvements (Cranston/Warwick/Johnston)

Cranston: RIDOT has closed the ramp (Exit 3A) from Rte. 37 East to Post Rd. (Rte. 1) South in Warwick for bridge demolition. Detouring traffic is to remain on Rte. 37 East and use a temporary traffic signal to make a left turn onto Post Rd. heading south. This traffic pattern is in place through the summer. Learn more.

Cranston: RIDOT has returned all travel lanes to its original configuration on Rte. 37 East and West at the Oaklawn Ave. Bridge in Cranston. Additionally, the stop sign at the I-295 North to Rte. 37 East ramp has been removed, opening Rte. 37 to three lanes in each direction over Oaklawn Ave. Learn more.

Cranston: RIDOT has made numerous traffic pattern changes at the Route 37/Route 2 interchange in Cranston as it begins replacing the structurally deficient bridge that carries Route 37 over Route 2:

  • Rte. 37 at Rte. 2 (Exits 1C & 1D): Both Rte. 37 East and West have shifted onto the eastbound portion of the bridge. With this change, the number of eastbound lanes has been reduced from two lanes to one lane. The number of lanes westbound will not change.
  • Rte. 37 East to Rte. 2 North toward Garden City/Chapel View: All traffic to Rte. 2 North or South is using Exit 1C. Exit 1D is temporarily closed. RIDOT made modifications to the Exit 1C ramp so traffic can use a temporary traffic signal to make left turns onto Rte. 2 North toward Garden City/Chapel View. Traffic to Rte. 2 South toward the Howard Complex and Garden Hills Parkway will bypass the signal using the end of the existing ramp.
  • Rte. 2 South from Garden City/Chapel View to Rte. 37 East & I-95: The on-ramp located just after the Rte. 37 overpass is closed. Instead, drivers are making a left turn at the temporary signal and using the ramp on the opposite side of the road to access Rte. 37 East toward the I-95 ramps.
  • Rte. 2 North/South on-ramp to Rte. 37 East: The stop sign at the end of the ramp has been removed, and traffic entering the highway has its own lane.

Cranston: A new traffic pattern, with a temporary traffic signal and travel lanes reduced from two to one in each direction on Rte. 2 (New London Ave.) at the Rte. 37 overpass, is in place for bridge replacement. Learn more.

Cranston:
All lanes have temporarily shifted to the right on Rte. 37 West, from I-295 to Rte. 2, to create a work zone that will allow the Department to continue phased demolition and reconstruction of the bridge carrying Rte. 37 over Oaklawn Ave. Learn more.

Warwick: On Fri. night (June 12), we're setting up a new traffic pattern on both directions of Rte. 1 (Post Rd.) at the Rte. 37 overpass in Warwick for ongoing bridge work. Motorists traveling north on Post Rd. under Rte. 37 will be shifted to the right. Southbound motorists will be shifted to the left and split around the existing bridge pier to allow continued construction of the new intersection. This new traffic pattern should remain through the end of this summer. A temporary signal will be in place for the new intersection configuration while the second half of the bridge is demolished. Learn more.

Cranston:
